Forging Partnerships... Impacting Lives

We were privileged to recently partner with Mrs. Barbara Lee, Executive Director of the Area Day Reporting Center in New Bern, NC. Her continued vision to enhance the lives of youth in Craven County makes her a lighthouse for our next generation.

The great great group of young men that participated in the Better Attitude Development camp went through three intense leadership development sessions with my staff and I. These sessions are not designed for the faint of heart, and are among some of the most direct and challenging youth workshops we offer.

With love invested by Mrs. Lee and her staff, and many breakthroughs by these young men, we were once again able to witness more young people equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century.

We Shall Never Forget!



Rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air... These are words that the greatness of our nation continues to hinge upon. In our travels this week, we were privileged to meet a legendary hero who was directly engaged in the epic battles of World War II. Nearly 70 years ago this brave man was willing to lay down his life so that one day we could live ours. One of the greatest ways we can honor our nation's heroes is to never forget them!

2012 Colorfest! A community project by Derrick Bryant

The 2012 Colorfest is a community project created by noted artist and professor Mr. Derrick Bryant. We were honored to be able to partner with Mr. Brant to help propel his vision of giving back to the community, and reaching our next generation of young people.  



Another G.O.A.L. Initiative Graduation!

If a picture is worth a 1,000 words this post should be worth 10,000!  On May 4, 2012 with more than 600 in attendance, a group of students from Grover C. Fields Middle School graduated from The G.O.A.L. Initiative. This six-week course guides youth through a comprehensive study of  their top five life goals.

We understand that not everyone is willing to do the work required to prepare for the future, but Grover C. Fields Middle School believes that their students can do it Right Now!

The C. L. King Group Inc. recognized Mrs. Thomasine Hassell as The Principal of the Year. Mrs. Hassell teaches her students that each one of them is a valuable team player on the field of learning. Throughout the G.O.A.L. Initiative course, Mrs. Hassell  made time to participate in each session and always offered inspiration and valuable insight. Craven County is blessed to have a leader of this caliber shaping our future generation!

 

The G.O.A.L. Initiative is a tool and resource for students to identify, organize and gain exposure to their life goals. This program trains students in elementary, middle and high school, and students engaged in various aspects of the community how to better prepare for life.We encourage parental involvement, which is one the key ingredients needed for our students to be successful.

 

There are many more milestones in life that these graduates will accomplish, but completing The G.O.A.L. Initiative is one they can remember for a lifetime!

Wali Davis Helps TGI Students Visualize!

In our final G.O.A.L. Initiative sesson the students were privileged to have Mr. Wali Davis as the guest speaker. Mr. Davis captivated these young minds with a riviting message about how to Visualize your goals.

Mr. Davis told the students how he reached a point in life where he didn't want to just have a job, he wanted to pursue his dreams. His message was a fitting end to the hard work these students have been engaged in for the past six weeks.

Mr. Davis told the TGI students to make a tangible representation of their goals. He told them they needed to "see" their goals every day. He helped the students grasp this concept by having each one of them draw a picture of what they felt their goal looked liked. Additionally, Mr. Davis told them to write two elements they will need to acheive their goal. The students provided insightful responses that we were able to capture:
