Financial Planning...An Essential Component!
When was the last time you talked with a financial planner? Better yet, when was the first time you talked with one? The G.O.A.L. Initiative students were privileged to receive an amazing class from Mr. Adam Persky, managing partner of New York Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Persky detailed the hard and tenacious work required to achieve the position he has with New York Life, and the critical need for young people to engage in financial planning.
Many individuals don't talk with a financial planner until well into adulthood, but The G.O.A.L. Initiative students received this opportunity in middle school! Mr. Persky inspired our students to work hard, seek challenges, and develop a plan. We all learned during this session that you are never too young to plan.

Jay Blaze Inspires The G.O.A.L. Initiative!
Jay Blaze from 101.9 took time out of his very busy schedule to visit our TGI students today. Jay shared his compelling story of how he came from South Central LA and worked his way up to where he is today!
"I actually went to college to play basketball" Blaze said. However, once he was exposed to the radio and entertainment industry he was hooked. Jay took the time to hear from every student, and he told them to never take no for an answer concerning their future.
Blaze said, "I love what I do in life, and so should you." All of the students left the session inspired to stop at nothing to accomplish their goals.
Thanks Jay Blaze... We heard you loud and clear!

Week 2 of The G.O.A.L. Initiative... Exposure!
TGI students participated in the Craven Community College Open House! Craven has so many opportunities to offer our young people, it was amazing to see the kids get this kind of exposure so early in their journey to adulthood! A special thanks to Dr. Chew and her staff for putting on a world-class community event.

The G.O.A.L. Initiative Kicks Off at Grover C. Fields Middle School
Students hit the ground running during the 1st session of The G.O.A.L. Initiative. After getting over the initial shock of the intensity of the course, these new students started to realize they could take control of their own destiny.
We were privileged to have Mrs. Karen Hobbs, Assistant District Attorney of New Bern, NC come and speak to the students about the benefits of preparing for their future right now. She detailed how her career has many demands and requires her to be focused and highly committed to excellence.
Next week the students will participate in an open house tour at Craven Community College, which is one of the premiere community colleges in the nation. Additionally we will hear from representatives from a large and influential radio station. They will share insights with the students on what they did to accomplish their goals in life.
Finally we are thankful to GCF Principal Mrs. Thomasine Hassell for her extraordinary leadership and belief that our youth are worth investing in.

Keeping Dr. King's Dream a Reality
The biblical account of Joseph found in the book of Genesis, is very comparable to the life of Dr. King and this present day.
Joseph dreamed dreams and interpreted them. It was because of the hand of God on his life that the nation of Israel survived throughout the seven years of famine.
In the 2nd book of the bible however, it details that the Pharaoh died, Joseph died, and the entire generation died but the new king did not know Joseph. He did not know the dreams Joseph had, he did not know how he saved millions of lives, and he did not know that Joseph’s dream became a reality.
So here we are...preparing to commemorate another birthday of the great Dr. Martin Luther King. In doing so, we must as individuals continue to make his dream a reality. Additionally, we must not allow a generation to rise up that does not know Dr. King.
The nation of Israel suffered in captivity for 400 years because something was not passed from one generation to the next. Our youth do not need to be tangled in the chains of gang violence, teen pregnancy, delinquency, and substance abuse all because they did not know about the dreamer.
Take time to teach your kids, your students, and your youth group that it is up to them to keep Dr. King's dream a reality for generations to come.

Taking Time To Give At Thanksgiving
We have many traditions during the holidays, but one that has seemed capture the heart of my kids is when we volunteer. My children and I were very privileged to spend time serving food at a community outreach during Thanksgiving.
We are thankful for the many blessings in our life, and one small way we try to show our appreciation is by finding ways to give back to our local community.
